We recently moved into a new school district. At our old school - the PTA made a decision to not engage in product sales. Instead they asked each family to give once each year. The thought was that since in a lot of cases it's the family members who end up buying the products (that they don't really need or want) anyway - why not just give the money directly.
In our new school - they use the catalog method. They also have a web site that gives a % to the school when you shop at various stores online.
Personally I think I prefer just giving $xxx once per year but Im wondering if anyone has ever done any studies to show which method is more effective. Or Im wondering if any of you have tackled this issue at your school.
Thanks
Karen

I have not tackled the issue. But I see where they are comin from. My daughter has started raising money for the Prevention of Child Abuse. She sells candles and donates 50% of the profits to the organization. This is a win-win for everyone. The candles are soy based. The have a fragrence to the bottom and are clean burning. If this interest you please contact me.
Have you ever thought of giving the parents and current sponsors something back? What if you gave them something of great value and that program would allow them to have their own home based business and they could help with your fundraising efforts 24/7 and never leave their house?
I understand the school not wanting to try to sell things, it is a pain and a bother for the parents. I am one myself and I dread it when my little girl brings home another catalog or sales letter. But I would love for you to look at something that would allow all kinds of people with little/no money to help to contribute to a school that they care about.
I know you think that I am crazy but you have not seen the amazing My Power Mall and how a completely 100% FREE program can allow people that don't have anything extra to give, donate to your worthy cause.
Ok let me get to the meat of it......MY Power Mall is a complete online shopping mall that has over 1000 of America's leading retail stores, You would shop on your own mall and a rebate on your purchases gets paid to your group. You give the malls away. The are FREE and when your parents/sponsors/donors shop your group makes a rebate. That simple. Please watch the presentation and let me know what you think.
My favorite store on My Power Mall is drugstore.com because I can get anything that I need at great prices and not have to put my foot into the local Walmart and fight that craziness. I love it when the UPS guy shows up with all of my goodies it is like Christmas every week.
